  The “Euskal Balezaleak” Programme.

   The sole purpose of this programme is to supply information to the fishing community of Hondarribia, and to include them in our research.

  The plan consists mainly in setting up a cetacean study. The fishing community will receive information of the characteristics and biology of cetaceans, so that they may learn to know, to distinguish between, and to understand these charming animals which they happen to meet on high seas.

   With this programme, apart from alerting, we hope to establish collaboration between the fishing community and E.I.B.E. - the cooperation of the fishing community consist in taking note of all the cetaceans they sight while they are fishing in Cantabrian waters. The facts obtained will be valuable information on the distribution of the cetaceans, and the interaction between fishing and this sea animals, which information completes the study on distribution and variety.

   The object of this plan , is to make the fishing community aware of its importance in the conservation of our marine resources, and of the need to establish professional connections and an interchange for the benefit of both groups.
