THE SHIP
The Marloi is the ship which E.I.B.E.
has at its disposal to carry out its programmes. E.I.B.E. suggests that
those taking part in its projects do so actively, and offers the Marloi´s
confort so that those who love the sea, navigation and cetaceans, may
join our work group.
Up until the 1940´s, sailing ships, devoted
to fishing tuna fish of the North, set sail from the French Brittany.
They were big, strong ships with great carryig capacity, but, at the
same time, they had to be sufficiently rapid to reach a speed of 4 knots
in a light breeze, in order to mislead the tuna fish, with their fish
hooks covered in corn leaves, which they dragged along with long cables.
The Marloi, constructed in polyester, mantains the
idea of a confortable and spacious ship, whose priorities are security
and space. Equipped with different sails and carrying a bowsprit 4 metres
long with a security net. It has an aluminium mast with rustproof rigging.
Its open deck permits great freedom of movement, where
ten crew members can carry out various activities without interference.
The ship is equiped with two double bunk beds in the
prow, 4 singles and one double astern. In the bows there is a toilet,
washbasin and shower.
In the central cabin, with an altitud of 2.40 mtres,
from floor to ceiling, is the kitchen, a table where 7 people can sit
to eat and the table of naval charts.
The maximum of 10 people who can come on board, will
have space to sit in the lounge or central cabin. All the compartments
are watertight and self-contained.
Its 129 horse-power engine enables it to attain a
speed of 8 knots. It can carry 900 litres of gasoil and 1400 litres
of water.

culture and resources is essential”
